under1mb was my first real attempt at a website. It ran from 1999 up until 2005. For the first few years it was hosted on under1mb.tripod.com, later I registered the domain name under1mb.com. The more popular downloads were generously hosted for free by GameHippo.com.
The website was a collection of freeware that was under 1mb (< 1024kb) in size. Software was found by me or submitted by users.
From what I remember the cms was a self written hackjob I cobbled together in PHP or maybe even HTML/CGI. In 2005 the website was hacked, after which I gave up on the site (despite claiming I’d be back in the message I posted after the hack).
I fondly remember having correspondance with Scott from FreewareArena.com, a website with a similar mission, but without the size constraint. RIP Scott Douglas Williams.
